GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Armed robbery suspects fired shots inside the Goose Creek Walmart late Wednesday night during a robbery.
Goose Creek police officials say the incident happened at the Walmart on St. James Avenue around 11:01 p.m., and officers are searching for two suspects.
At this time, GCPD officials do not have a description of the suspects.
No injuries were reported.
Shoppers reported earlier that it was a robbery and the suspects had fired two shots near the front of the store.
Lisa Burton, who was shopping at the Walmart at the time, said she heard the first shot but thought it was something that had fallen from the ceiling.
"But when the second one started, that 's when people started screaming and running away from the front," Burton said. "Everybody started saying there was a shooting."
Burton said shoppers were running from the front area of the store after the gunfire had erupted.
According to Burton, she and others managed to get out of the store when an associate opened an emergency exit.
However, Burton says the suspects were outside and heard the door open as well as the alarm.
"Right when the door opened, they turned around and shot at us and hit a truck," Burton said. "We went back inside and ended up in the women's department."
Responding officers were seen closing the entrances of the store as detectives investigated the scene.
Police tape closed a portion of the entrances as well as the front of the store.
According to witnesses, no one was injured in the incident.
Residents in nearby neighborhoods reported officers searching the area for the suspects following the robbery.
GCPD officers are continuing the investigation.
Crews with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office are also assisting with the case.
The store will reopen at 9 a.m. Thursday. More information is expected to be released by police later.
