SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) -
Investigators have charged a 39-year-old woman in connection to a fatal hit-and-run that took the life of 23-year-old Brett Farmer of Summerville.
Officials with the Summerville Police Department charged Valerie Nelson on Thursday with obstruction of justice for hindering the investigation.
The charges stem from the hit-and-run that took place on Thanksgiving Day on Holiday Drive in Summerville.
Nelson received a $25,000 surety bond and was locked up at the Berkeley County Detention Center.
Police say this is still an active and on-going investigation.
Brett Farmer's mother, Micki Pitchford, released the following statement:
"We are pleased with the outcome of this investigation so far, but we still don't have all the answers that we need. As a mother who lost her son, I beg you to come forward if you have information that will bring closure to our family. We know that there are people out there that have more information. Please help us find justice for Brett."
Authorities say they are helpful that more arrests will be made.
