NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - Monday kicked off the busiest package collection day of the year. Nationwide United States Postal Service processed 611 million pieces of mail on December 19, being the busiest processing day for packages, letters, and cards, Victor Dixon Project Manager with USPS said.
With this being the busy season package delivery season, USPS said everything is running according to schedule.
"Mail is running right on track according to the service scanners and we haven't had any issues as of right now. Barring weather does sometimes impact our ability, but it hasn't this far," Dixon said.
At the North Charleston facility they ship packages all across the country, and deliver mail all across the Lowountry spanning to Georgia. Dixon said they have hired seasonal workers to ensure everything continues to run smoothly.
Package Handler Barbara Malbomabo said this is her favorite time of the year, "I know most of these are for kids so you hear the noises and the sound and the wrapping so it's extra special."
