Emergency crews extinguish fire in N. Charleston; residents being assisted

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Fire officials say crews have extinguished a structure fire in North Charleston Tuesday afternoon. 

North Charleston fire officials say the fire was on South Rhett between Orangeburg and Helm and involved a multi-family dwelling. 

Authorities are asking motorists to avoid the area or use extreme caution. 

Emergency crews are working to assist residents displaced by the fire. 

According to NCFD officials, crews are on scene overhauling and investigating the fire. 

Authorities say three apartments were damaged and three families have been displaced.
