CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Investigators with the Charleston Police Department have arrested one person and are continuing to investigate after someone broke windows at several businesses in downtown.
According to police, the vandalisms happened early Wednesday morning to eight businesses on Broad Street and four businesses on State Street.
The investigation began when officers responded to an alarm around 12:30 a.m. at 54 Broad Street where a glass pane on the door was found to be broken.
"Officers also found broken glass windows at 24, 30, 34, 42 84, 120, 157 Broad Street and 3, 9, 17 and 23 State Street," CPD officials said.
As officers canvassed the area they found 20-year-old Robert Hodges at Broad Street and Colonial Drive.
"Hodges was intoxicated with a cut on his elbow and blood dripping down his arm and hand," police said.
Police say Hodges had an ice cream container of gelato ice cream.
Investigators determined the ice cream came from Burbages at 157 Broad Street which was one of the businesses that were vandalized.
Hodges is charged with burglary second-degree and public intoxication. Hodges was being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.

Charleston police say they have increased their presence in the area.
