Car knocks out power at N. Charleston neighborhood following shooting

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A shooting Wednesday night left a North Charleston neighborhood without power when the victim's car crashed into a utility pole.

Shortly after 6 p.m., police responded to the 5000 block of Rockingham Street for a gunshot victim.

Police say it is unclear what led to the shooting but officers said the victim's vehicle had crashed into a nearby utility pole. Police say they recovered marijuana on the ground.

The victim did not cooperate with investigators, an incident report states. He was transported to MUSC for treatment.

The call reporting gunfire in the area of Rockingham Street came in at 6:07 p.m., according to Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch. Officers closed a portion of the street closed and police tape was seen around a home.

North Charleston Police, North Charleston Fire and Charleston County EMS responded to the scene.

SCE&G reported nearly 80 customers in the area were without power and estimated it would be restored at around 2 a.m.
