Running Back Andre Ellington has re-signed with the Arizona Cardinals the team announced on Monday afternoon.
Ellington, who was a 6th round pick of the team in the 2013 draft out of Clemson, agreed to a 1-year deal.
"It's a huge weight lifted off my shoulders," Ellington said to the Cardinals website. "But there wasn't a doubt in my mind I wanted to continue my career here. I came in, the fan base embraced me, they treated me like family."
The Berkeley alum is coming off his worst year statistically after falling to 3rd on the depth chart with the emergence of David Johnson. He totaled just 181 yards combined rushing and receiving and didn't score a touchdown.
"(My role) is to get in where I fit in," Ellington said. "David is a talented guy, but he's human. He's going to need a break every once in a while. That'll be my job to step in and spare him a little bit."
For his career, Ellington has totaled over 2400 yards of total offense and scored 12 touchdowns.
