Deputies: Suspect in fatal Mt. Pleasant shooting turns himself in

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - A suspect in a fatal February shooting in Mount Pleasant turned himself in Monday night, deputies say.

Damon Heyward, 19, is charged with murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime, according to jail records.

Heyward was wanted in connection with the Feb. 24 shooting on Kidmore Road that left a 22-year-old dead, according to Charleston County Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson.

Justin Nelson died at MUSC Saturday morning from a gunshot wound, according to Charleston County Deputy Coroner Kimberly Rhoton.

Charleston County deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Boston Grill Road on Friday shortly after 4 p.m. on Feb. 24, according to an incident report. Deputies say they were directed to a parked car on Kidmore Road where they found Nelson in the front seat.

The vehicle had multiple bullet holes and busted windows, the report states.

According to initial reports, two men were seen running from the scene.

On March 7, deputies said they arrested 17-year-old Sky'lur Green, who was also charged with one count of murder and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime

Heyward was being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center pending a bond hearing Tuesday morning.
