CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Southern Living magazine has named Charleston "The South's Best City of 2017."
After pouring through more than 22,000 online votes, the Holy City came out on top as the South's best city.
New Orleans came in third and Savannah came in second.
Readers were asked to vote in a list of the "best-of-the-best" Southern spots covering 13 categories.
Editor-in-chief Sid Evans announced the winners during a live segment in Charleston on the magazine's Facebook page.
"Congrats to all our friends in Charleston," Evans said."The Southern Living audience has had a long relationship with Charleston."
Evans added that Charleston has been on the cover of the magazine countless times.
"It's just one of the most incredible cities in the South if not the world," said Evans who told viewers he sometimes refers to Charleston as the Paris of the South.
"There so many things to see, but it's really the people of the city that make it so special," Evans said.
Southern Living cited the local food scene and the city's art and culture as some of the shining points that make Charleston stand out.
