MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Authorities have arrested a 74-year-old Mount Pleasant man accused of fatally shooting his wife.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department charged John Magwood with murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.
Magwood's charges stems from an incident on Wednesday at 6:33 a.m. when officers responded to a home for a possible suicide.
Officers reported locating the the victim, Garden Magwood, in the bedroom with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
"During the course of the investigation it was determined that the victim's husband, John M. Magwood (74), shot his wife before calling police," MPPD officials said.
Police said Magwood will be booked at the Charleston County Detention Center once detectives have cleared him from questioning.
He is scheduled to have a bond hearing on Thursday.
Poice are continuing the investigation.
On Wednesday morning, Mount Pleasant police reported that they were in the early stages of a death investigation. Police had initially responded to the home where a death had been reported.
