WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - The National Action Network has formed a new chapter in Colleton County.
Officials made the announcement at a news conference Wednesday morning in Walterboro.
Chapter president Erika Davis said the organization plans to tackle several issues in Colleton County.
She says they include education. Davis says the county's high school graduation rate is far below the state average.
She also said many teachers want to leave the district because of low pay. Davis says many teachers are forced to pay for school supplies out of their own pockets.
During the news conference, state NAN president Elder James Johnson announced the organization will file a lawsuit to force single member district ejections for Walterboro City Council.
The Colleton County chapter of NAN is the ninth one to be formed in the state, he said.
