SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Investigators say they have arrested a man following a hostage situation at a business in Summerville Friday afternoon.

The whole thing started at 1:09 p.m. when officers with the Summerville Police Department responded to a call of a man with a gun who was pointing it at a female at 318 N. Cedar Street.

When officers arrived they reported that 37-year-old Wesley Ford Heatherly called police and told them he had a gun while he was barricaded in a room inside the business.

Officers then set up a perimeter and hostage negotiations began.

"Some time into hostage negotiations, the subject released the female victim," SPD officials said.

Police say after further negotiations, the suspect refused to exit the room he was barricaded in.

"Our Emergency Services Unit then deployed less lethal objects to subdue the subject," SPD officials said." He was taken into custody without further incident."

Summerville police officers and SWAT were seen taking Heatherly into custody in the area of Carnival Cuts.

Heatherly is being charged with kidnapping, domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

His bond hearing will be Saturday morning.

Police say he will be locked up at the Dorchester County Detention Center.

According to a tweet from the Summerville Police Department, law enforcement responded to an incident in the area of North Cedar Street and West North 3rd Street Friday afternoon.

Authorities had shut down Main Street at West 3rd North Street because of the incident.

Those streets have since been reopened.

According to witnesses, the incident happened at Carnival Cuts. Carnival Cuts main Facebook page stated that none of their staff was currently in the building.

Police, SWAT and the fire department responded to the scene.
