HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (KABC/CNN) – A restaurant customer in California says she was appalled when her waiter asked her and her friends for proof of residency before serving them.

Diana Carrillo posted on Facebook after a trip to a restaurant last Saturday took a sour turn.

The woman, whose parents are immigrants, says she and her friends were asked to provide proof of residency when they ordered their drinks.

“I was shocked. I didn't know what to say. I couldn't believe he actually asked me for my proof of residency instead of valid proof of ID or date of birth,” Carrillo said.

Carrillo claims the waiter told the group that he needed to make sure they were “from here” before he served them.

The group complained to the manager, who told them they could sit in another section, but they were so shocked they decided to leave, Carrillo says.

The restaurant says the waiter has been fired, and his behavior doesn’t represent the management. They also promised to donate 10 percent of the weekend’s profits to a charity of Carrillo’s choice.
