Police looking for man in string of downtown thefts

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Charleston Police released surveillance stills Tuesday in a theft at a Rivers Avenue business.

The man shown in the stills purchased several items at the Maxway, but as he was leaving, he reached behind one of the counters and removed additional items he did not purchase, Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis said.

Is is also suspected in additional thefts in the downtown area, Francis said.

The man is believed to be in his late 40s or 50s, has gray scruffy facial hair, and was shown wearing a tan jacket and black pants.

Anyone who can identify him is asked to call call 843-743-7200 and ask for the on duty CPD detective or call Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
