The Citadel baseball team fell 6-0 to Western Carolina on Saturday afternoon at Hennon Stadium.
A pitchers' duel ensued between Bulldog starter Will Abbott and Catamount pitcher Tristan Baker. Both starters held the opposing team scoreless through five innings to open the game.
In the sixth inning, the Bulldogs (9-18, 2-3 SoCon) nearly escaped the inning with no damage, but a two-out single scored the first two runs and ended Abbott's strong outing.
Abbott received the tough-luck loss, allowing just the two runs over 5.2 innings with five strikeouts.
The Bulldog offense was stymied for much of the afternoon, recording four hits while drawing seven walks.
Bryce Leasure posted two hits to lead the team, while Shy Phillips and Williams Kinney each recorded one. The offense's best opportunity came in the eighth inning when they loaded the bases on three walks.
The Citadel looks to finish the road series with a victory on Sunday, with first pitch at 1 p.m. Links to live statistics and video will be available at CitadelSports.com.
