WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - A 10-year-old girl who claims she was being teased brought a gun to school last week, the Colleton County Sheriff's Office has confirmed.
Deputies say the student brought the gun to Forest Hills Elementary School in Walterboro on Tuesday, but students did not notify the school resource officer until Friday, Colleton County Sheriff's Lt. Tyger Benton said.
The gun belongs to the student's father and was in a place where she had access to it, Benton said. Her father was not aware she had taken it to school until deputies told him, Benton said.
Deputies say no charges have been filed against the girl and the school district will handle any possible disciplinary action.
The case is still under investigation, Benton said.
