NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) -

Tuesday marks two years since the shooting death of a North Charleston man by a police officer sparked international attention.

On April 4, 2015, then-North Charleston officer Michael Slager shot and killed Walter Scott, who ran from a traffic stop.

Officials say Scott was originally pulled over because a brake light was out.

Slager was charged with murder two days after the shooting, when bystander cellphone video of Scott being shot in the back as he ran away started to circulate.

In what the Scott family attorney called a "missed opportunity for justice," Slager's state trial ended in a mistrial when a jury could not reach a unanimous decision on the case last year. He will stand trial for federal charges beginning on May 1.
