LADSON, SC (WCSC) -

A Ladson man is facing charges after deputies say he set a woman on fire Tuesday morning.

Christopher Lee Holmes, 31, is charged with attempted murder, according to Berkeley County Chief Deputy Mike Cochran.

Deputies responded to a home in the 100 block of Coveney Court where the incident occurred. Before deputies arrived, a bystander transported the woman to Trident Hospital.

The victim told deputies Holmes poured lighter fluid on her and set her on fire after a dispute, Cochran said.

Witness accounts and physical evidence investigators collected matched the victim's account of what happened, he said.

She has since been transferred to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in August for treatment. She has extensive burns on her body, Cochran said.

Additional charges are possible, deputies say.

Holmes is being held at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center pending a bond hearing Wednesday.
