The Citadel baseball team got back into the win column with an 8-6 victory at Charleston Southern on Tuesday night at CSU Ballpark.

Trailing 5-4 heading into the top of the seventh, the Bulldogs (10-19, 2-4 SoCon) responded with a three-run inning to reclaim the lead and hold it for good.

J.D. Davis reached on a hit-by-pitch to lead off the seventh, followed by a single by Clay Martin. Jonathan Sabo bunted to move the runners over, but reached on a Buccaneer error which scored Davis to tie up the ball game. William Kinney brought home Martin on a sacrifice fly and Bryce Leasure drove in Sabo with a two-out line drive to center.

Jordan Buster earned his first victory of the season, getting two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Aaron Lesiak picked up the save with two scoreless innings to close out the ball game. Alex Bialakis started for the Bulldogs, allowing four runs over five innings with two strikeouts.

The Citadel offense exploded in the first two innings, starting with a two-run home run by Ben Peden in the first. The Bulldogs scored two more runs in the second on a double by Barrett Charpia and a ground-ball double play which scored Taylor Cothran.

Charleston Southern stormed back from the second to sixth inning with five unanswered runs to take the lead. After falling behind 7-5 in the seventh, the Buccaneers pulled within a run in the eighth inning, but could not get any closer.

Peden led the offense with a 2-for-4 game including the two-run homer. Leasure and Sabatini each added two hits. Sabo scored three runs after drawing two walks and reaching on an error.

The Bulldogs return home on Wednesday, hosting defending national champions Coastal Carolina at 6 p.m.
