Tuesday night the Berkeley County School Board moved forward in its search for the next superintendent after former Superintendent Brenda Blackburn resigned last month following a special board meeting on the financial investigation of the district.
Earlier this year, the district fired its chief financial officer after he was accused of taking nearly 400 thousand dollars from the district.
The nationwide search for the new head of schools is expected to come to an end by September 1. The board preferred that the new superintendent have a Doctorate degree and come with a Superintendent background.
The firm heading the new search has some ties to the Berkeley County School District.
Anthony Parker of Harper, Parker and Associates will lead the search. Parker was a former Berkeley County Superintendent.
