BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

A man is facing charges after flipping his car while leading a deputy in a chase, authorities say.

According to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, 46-year-old Robert White was observed driving over the speed limit on Old Hwy 6 Thursday around 2 p.m.

The deputy tried to pull White over, but he refused to stop.

The deputy says he followed White for about seven miles before the man lost control and flipped the vehicle.

Officials say the car caught fire and the deputy was able to use an extinguisher to put it out.

The deputy had to break the windows to free White, who authorities say is a habitual traffic offender and was driving under suspension.

White was taken to the Hill-Finklea Detention Center to await a bond hearing.
