West Ashley to see changes in revitalization

WEST ASHLEY SC (WCSC) - The West Ashley Revitalization plan got one step closer Wednesday night with a look at how the Master Plan will be formed.

The plan will play a key role in giving West Ashley a facelift and shaping the future of streets, neighborhoods, shopping districts, and everything in between.

“The point of the process is for the community to come out and dictate,” Charleston County Council Member Brantley Moody said. “So it’s not what we hope to get accomplished it’s what the community hopes to get accomplished.”

Starting April 24, the West Ashley and Charleston community will have four opportunities to come give their input on what they would like to see changed or added in West Ashley.

"There should not be anybody in West Ashley or the city of Charleston who says they didn't know what was going on. They really have got to participate and have to have 100 percent participation to get what we want," Moody said.

Members of the community already have ideas for what they would like to see improved in their area.

"I would love to see more grocery stores over here, wider streets, more shopping stores like Belk and Sears," Barbara Goodman said.

Some other long-term residents said the idea of having less fast-food and more slow-paced dining opportunities.

"I think of anything some more sit-down restaurants would be nice there's a lot of fast food and what have you but sit down opportunities would be encouraged," Alan Milburn said.

Everyone will have many opportunities to have their voices heard. To see a full calendar of community outreach events and learn about the goals, timeline, and how to have your voice heard in the future of West Ashley you can go here, https://www.planwestashley.com/ .
