(RNN) - A scorpion stung a United Airlines passenger flying from Houston to Calgary, Canada, a couple said.

The incident occurred the same day another United passenger was dragged from a plane in Chicago.

Richard Bell's wife, Linda, said that on Sunday the venomous creature fell from an overhead bin to her husband's hair and stung him while he was eating lunch.

"My husband felt something in his hair," she told CNN. "He grabbed it out of his hair and it fell onto his dinner table. As he was grabbing it by the tail it stung him."

Richard Bell spoke to CBC News. "It hit my nail more than my skin, I think" he said. "So maybe my thumbnail saved me a little bit."

He shooed the scorpion off his tray, his wife said, adding that a nearby passenger saw the scorpion land in the aisle.

After another passenger stomped the creature, United employees put it in the toilet, according to Globalnews.ca.

United said in a statement that medical personnel who met the aircraft in Calgary determined that the sting was not a life-threatening matter.

Linda Bell said United apologized to her husband Wednesday and offered him compensation. She did not disclose the terms.
