BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County deputies say they arrested a man after he allegedly intentionally ran over another man and injured him.
Garrett Ethan Lane, 21 of Goose Creek, was arrested and charged with Violation of Order of Protection, Grand Larceny of Motor Vehicle and two counts of Attempted Murder.
On Saturday morning, deputies with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office responded to Medway Road at Tanbark Court in unincorporated Berkeley County in reference to an aggravated assault where a male victim had been run over by a vehicle and sustained incapacitating injuries.
Lane went to a home on Tanbark Court, where a gathering was taking place.
Lane entered the residence, and took keys to a SUV, deputies say.
The suspect got into the vehicle and began to race up and down Tanbark Court and Medway Road multiple times, they say. This caused several people to come outside from the gathering and attempt to get Lane to stop.
According to eyewitness and victim accounts, Lane swerved at the crowd and intentionally struck one of the men that was on the side of the road, running him completely over, incapacitating him, according to deputies.
Lane continued to recklessly drive down Medway Road and eventually stopped back at the incident location and was detained until the arrival of the Sheriff's Office, deputies say.
EMS transported the victim to an area hospital where he was treated.
His status is unknown at this time but he is expected to recover, according to deputies.
Lane was transported to the Hill-Finklea Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
