Former Charleston Southern assistant football coach Gabe Giardina was named head coach at Albany State Monday afternoon.
Giardina was previously the Bucs offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the past four seasons. He also coached at CSU from 2008-2011.
Under Giardina, the CSU offense put up big numbers the last four years including in 2016 when the Bucs led the Big South in yards per rush (6.0) and was sixth nationally in rushing yards per game at 266.5 helping the team win back to back conference championships and consecutive trips to the FCS Playoffs.
The departure is the latest in what's been a busy offseason with the CSU program. Former head coach Jamey Chadwell left for Coastal Carolina while former defensive coordinator Chad Staggs left for Furman.
