Coroner identifies Charleston man killed after car crashes into tree

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities have identified a Charleston man who died after his car struck a tree. 

The Charleston County Coroner's Office says 31-year-old Alexander Janow died as a result of blunt force trauma.

He was pronounced dead on scene, and the sheriff's office is investigating. 

The accident happened on April 17 when deputies responded to a single vehicle collision on Ashley River Road before the Dorchester County line.

According to CCSO officials, a car traveling southbound on Ashley River Road crossed into the northbound lane at a high rate of speed then went back into the southbound lane. 

"The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree," CCSO officials said."The driver was pronounced dead at the scene."

Authorities say the driver was wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision.
