Finance & Food Trucks offers fun way to learn about budgeting

GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - The Berkeley and Dorchester Prosperity Centers are mixing food with finances to wrap up Financial Literacy Month. The first Finance & Food Trucks event will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Calvary Church of God in Christ in Goose Creek.

This free, family friendly event has something for everyone. Live music, a children's train ride, bounce house and other life-sized interactive games give the event a festival feel while also providing opportunities for adults to take classes to increase their financial literacy on a variety of topics.

The Prosperity Centers are a collaboration among Trident United Way, Palmetto Goodwill and Origin SC, to offer career readiness workshops, budgeting classes, computer literacy classes and more.

Attendees will be able to choose from four workshops on topics including budgeting, credit counseling, entrepreneurship, home ownership and paying for college. Coupons for food trucks at the event will be awarded for each class attended, giving participants the opportunity to earn free or reduced-price food, according to a news release from Trident United Way.  Childcare will be provided for kids ages 3 to 11.

Registration for Finance & Food Trucks begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, but interested parties are encouraged to register online prior to the event, as seating for workshops is limited. Visit for more information.
