FOLLY BEACH, SC (WCSC) - Emergency officials say a woman suffered minor injuries following a shark bite on Folly Beach on Saturday morning.
Authorities say the incident involved a 36-year-old woman who was near the washout around 11 a.m.
According to Folly Beach emergency officials, the injury consisted of a bite wound to the woman's left heel.
The bite wound had a radius of approximately five-inches, Folly Beach Public Safety Chief Andrew Gilreath said. Police and fire officials immediately began applying pressure to the wound to control bleeding and she was transported to MUSC, he said.
The victim was alert and breathing normally while she was being treated, he said.
Two Folly Beach officers, a county deputy and the fire department responded to the scene.
Officials with Folly Beach say it is the first report of a shark bite this year.
