The Bulldogs (12-28, 3-11 SoCon) kept the game close into the sixth inning, trailing 3-2 through five and a half innings. The Furman offense exploded in the bottom of the sixth, however, breaking out with six runs to extend their lead to 9-2.

The Paladins added two runs in the seventh and eight runs in the eighth to win by a 19-2 score.

Will Abbott pitched well through five innings, allowed three runs with just one earned. In the sixth, he ran into trouble with the first four runners tallying hits.

Bryce Leasure led the offense, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate. Taylor Cothran led the game off with a single, later scoring on a William Kinney ground out to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the first. J.D. Davis hit a leadoff double in the fifth inning, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Jonathan Sabo.

Landon Kay and Cameron Whitehead each finished with four hits for the Paladins. Kay hit two home runs and drove in four runs, while Whiteside finished a triple shy of the cycle.

The Bulldogs close out the three-game set at Furman on Sunday at 1 p.m. Thomas Byelick will be on the hill for The Citadel.
