NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police say a man was having sex with a woman in a van when he was fatally shot in North Charleston.
The coroner's office identified the deceased as 34-year-old Ladontes Miller of North Charleston.
On Monday, officials with the North Charleston Police Department released new details in the Friday night shooting.
The investigation began when a police officer responded to St. Johns Avenue for a shooting and found witnesses standing near the scene in the roadway.
The witnesses indicated that the actual scene was behind a home where a van was still running with its headlights on. The officer reported it appeared that the back bumper of the van was pressed against the home as if it had crashed into it.
Police found the victim slumped over the driver's seat and a woman, who had blood on her hands and face, squatting behind the driver's door.
The woman said she was the victim's friend.
The woman told the officer that she and the victim were having sex in the vehicle when someone came up to the van and shot the victim.
She said the suspect then left and sped away in a vehicle. She indicated there was only one gunshot. Police say the woman was unable to tell how many suspects there were.
Witnesses told investigators they heard a single "pop" and saw a van backed into the home.
The homeowner said she had walked up to the van to see why they had crashed into her house and realized, along with other witnesses, that the victim had been shot and was dead.
The witnesses also said the woman was using narcotics in the back seat after the victim was shot.
She faces charges, and police are still searching for the shooting suspect.
