NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Officers with the North Charleston Police Department are investigating an armed robbery, they say.

Brandon Cook, 18, was arrested and charged with the incident.

Shortly after 8 p.m. officers were in the area of the Family Dollar at 3315 Rivers Avenue and were flagged down in reference to an armed robbery that just occurred to the business.

Cook entered the business, placed a white t-shirt over his head and face, and then pointed a gun at a clerk behind the check-out counter and demanded money, according to police.

Once Cook obtained the money, he left the store and fled on foot towards Reynolds Avenue.

Officers spotted some coins on Reynolds Avenue and Cook was then observed nearby running behind NAPA Auto Parts.

Cook was located crouched down in the back yard of a Reynolds Avenue residence, police say. He surrendered to officers without further incident.

Located on him were cash, loose coins, and rolled coins as well, police say.

Cook was charged with armed robbery and transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center.

This is a developing story. Check back for details.
