BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

A traffic stop in Sangaree led to an arrest after deputies found drugs and a loaded gun in Sangaree.

The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office arrested 18-year-old Belal Smalls of Summerville.

His arrest stems from an incident on Tuesday when a deputy saw a car with an equipment violation in the area of Royle Road and North Main Street.

"Upon stopping the vehicle, the deputy detected the pungent odor of burnt marijuana," BCSO officials said."The driver acknowledged that he had smoked marijuana earlier in the evening."

According to the sheriff's office, a probable cause search resulted in deputies locating 311 grams of marijuana which was packaged into 13 bags and accompanied by scales.

"A loaded Ruger SR22 was located in the vehicle," the sheriff's office said."Upon being taken into custody, three tablets of Oxycodine Hydrocholride, a Schedule II controlled substance were located in one of Smalls’ pockets."

Smalls was transported to the Hill Finklea Detention Center.
