CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Investigators are searching for a suspect wanted for a fatal shooting in downtown Charleston.
The Charleston Police Department is looking for 19-year-old Tyrone Lamar Council II wanted on charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the possession of a violent crime.
The charges are in connection with a homicide that happened at the intersection of Hagood Avenue and Ashton Street on Monday at 6:30 pm.
"If anybody has information on his whereabouts please contact Charleston Consolidated Dispatch at (843) 743-7200, or Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-1111," CPD officials said.
Police believe there was an altercation between the victim and the suspect.
The Charleston County Coroner's Office has not yet released the identity of the victim.
As police seek information, community members said they're worried.
"I don't think it's too safe. Because now everyone has to be on high alert because it just hits so close to home," said Brittany Mcneil. "So many things are hitting so close to home and so many young people are dying. So, I don't think that it's safe."
Mcneil said with the deadly shooting happening just a block away and a search warrant executed in a neighborhood where kids watched from afar, she's said it's up to the community to protect the kids.
"I feel like there's a lot of violence and there's nothing being done about it and I feel as a community we must pull together," said Mcneil. "This violence has to stop because these young kids are growing up and they're growing up in a world full of violence."
