WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - Colleton County deputies say they found no sign of a weapon at a school after a student told classmates he believed he saw one.
A student at the school reported that another student had a weapon, according to Colleton County Sheriff's Lt. Tyger Benton.
School administrators and Colleton County deputies searched the school but say the did not locate any weapon.
"The school was not placed on lockdown due the administration's quick response to the potential weapon on campus and parents were notified via our school messenger system after their investigation validating the report was unfounded," Colleton County School District Supt. Dr. Franklin Foster said.
Benton says investigators have since learned the student who reported the weapon did not actually see one, but said he or she assumed the classmate had a weapon based on a conversation.
No charges have been filed.
The investigation is ongoing, Benton said.
