COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Investigators have arrested a 23-year-old man following a chase on I-95 in Walterboro which ended with the suspect's car getting stuck in the mud.

The Colleton County Sheriff's Office arrested Jahsaun Lawrence Bostic of Walterboro.

Bostic's arrest stems from an incident Tuesday evening when a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a car on I-95 near mile marker 55 for going 87 mph in a 70 mph zone.

The deputy said the driver told him his name was Devant Hazel and gave him a birth date which did not match up with the age the suspect gave the deputy.

A report states the suspect was not giving straight answers to the deputy and was continuously pulling at his shorts like he was trying to hide something.

Authorities say the driver sped off which led to a pursuit.

During the pursuit, the driver almost crashed into several vehicles, CCSO officials said.

The pursuit ended after the driver's car got stuck in the mud.

The deputy reported that when he asked the driver why he fled, the driver said he didn't have any family here and didn't want to go to jail.

A K-9 was brought to the scene and alerted authorities to something in the vehicle.

A tow truck was called in to pull the vehicle out of the mud so that investigators could do a search of the car.

The sheriff's office is continuing the investigation.
