BCSD: Post about harming 'SHS' school originated from another state

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Berkeley County School District officials say a social media post about someone wanting do harm at a school with an 'SHS' abbreviation originated in another state and is not directed at any school in the county. 

"It has come to our attention that a post is quickly circulating indicating that an individual by the name of "Ray Andres" intends to do harm at "SHS," BCSO officials said in a statement."It appears that this post originated in another state and is not directed at any school in Berkeley County. If you see this information shared on social media, please assist us by letting the individual who shares the post know that this was not directed at any Berkeley County school. "

Officials with the Summerville Police Department reported receiving multiple messages about the possible threat. 

"After a joint investigation with Dorchester County Sheriff's Office, it was determined that the threat involved a high school in Ohio," Summerville PD officials said. "The threat is being investigated by the proper authorities." 

Authorities are advising citizens not to participate in disseminating the threats through social media, but to notify your local police department. 

"This helps ensure that the threat is being investigated properly," SPD officials said. 

The district released the following additional information: 

With safety and security as our highest priority, we take all reports that pertain to the safety and security of our schools seriously. We appreciate the cooperation and support of everyone who is helping to keep our schools safe. We ask that you continue to encourage your student to report any concerns to their teachers and administrators.
