Charlotte, NC - Charleston Southern's Phlandrous Fleming Jr. has been named the Big South Conference Freshman of the Week for the third time this season, the league office announced Sunday.
Fleming averaged 13 points, five rebounds and 1.5 steals per game to help CSU knock off Campbell and Winthrop and stay hot entering this week's Big South Championship. He was active in the Bucs' win over Campbell, recording six rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block to help CSU limit the explosive Camels to 38 percent shooting. Fleming was sensational in Saturday's win at Winthrop, tallying a career-high 26 points while going 7-for-11 from the floor and 8-for-9 at the free-throw line. He hit all six of his free throws over the final 41 seconds to help CSU win in Rock Hill for the first time in 16 years.
Fleming was also tabbed Big South Freshman of the Week on Dec. 18 and Jan. 15. He is one of only two freshmen to receive the honor multiple times this season. Fleming leads all league freshmen in steals (1.3 SPG – 11th overall) and is second in scoring (10.7 PPG – 22nd overall). The Athens, Ga., product has been a pivotal part of CSU's 1-3-1 pressure defense that is forcing a Big South-best 15.9 turnovers per game (18th nationally).
Gardner-Webb redshirt junior guard David Efianayi was named Big South Player of the Week. Efianayi averaged 25 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists to help the Runnin' Bulldogs pick up a pair of wins and earn the sixth and final bye into the Big South Championship Quarterfinals.
