Mt. Pleasant men charged after allegedly beating victim with baseball bat

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Three Mount Pleasant men have been charged after they allegedly beat a 49-year-old with a baseball bat.

Officers who responded to the scene in the 2300 block of Chadbury Lane observed the victim's speech was slurred and he was having a difficult time forming sentences, according to the incident report. He was hospitalized before Aidan Lynch, 21, Andrew Selent, 20, and Robert McElhenney 21, were charged with assault and battery by mob in connection with the incident.

Selent and McElhenney came back to the scene were also taken to the hospital before they were booked. Lynch remained on scene, according to the incident report.

A witness said his cousin and cousins' friends tried to pick him up, but the victim wouldn't let them, the report said. When the witness went downstairs, he stated that he saw his cousin and friends breaking down the door while the victim was trying to hold the door shut, according to the incident report. The witness then stated he saw a baseball bat change possession between people and his father struck repeatedly, the report said.

Officers saw the victim with blood on his shirt as well as a blood-soaked towel in his hand, according to the incident report. A black and silver baseball bat was also found in the doorway with several pools of blood and other blood spots on the walls of the residence, according to the incident report.
