CHARLESTON, SC -

With the score tied in the bottom of the ninth, Jason Miller’s double brought home the winning run as Charleston Southern walked-off in their win over Savannah State on Tuesday afternoon.

The game was tied at five in the bottom of the ninth. Ryan Rizk lead off with a single up the middle. The next batter was Jason Miller, who hit a ball deep to right center field. Savannah State’s center fielder gave chase, but the ball dropped and caromed off the wall. Rizk hustled around from first to score the winning run and give the Bucs a 6-5 victory.

CSU took the lead four separate times in this game. Josh Litchfield’s RBI single originally gave the Bucs a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Savannah State responded with three runs in the third, but Kale Rhame tied the game in that same inning with a triple that brought home two. CSU would later retake the lead in the fifth off of a double from Aaron Miller that made it 4-3 Bucs.

Savannah State brought the score even with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, but Rhame again came through for the Bucs with an RBI double in the seventh pushing his team out to a 5-4 advantage. The game looked destined for extras when Bryce Luke hit an RBI single in the eighth, but Miller’s double in the ninth concluded the game.

On a day where four pitchers took the mound for CSU, Wil Hartsell (1-0) got the win for CSU. He threw one and two thirds perfect innings with one strikeout.

Gregory Smith (0-1) took the loss for Savanah State, pitching one inning and allowing one run, on two hits and one walk.
