NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police responded to a shooting in North Charleston Wednesday night.
A call for the incident came in at 11:02 p.m. to the 1400 block of Bexley Street.
According to the police report, dispatch told officers the man who called in the incident accidentally shot himself in the hip.
Upon arrival, officers met the victim at the front door. The victim was sitting in an electric wheelchair and had a hole in the right hip of his blue jeans with a spot of blood near the hole.
The victim told officers the weapon was in his bedroom.
The victim reportedly told officers he sat down on his bed and accidentally sat on his one-shot Cobray Model D .45 caliber pistol that was laying on the bed, causing it to discharge.
The victim said the pistol was loaded with a buckshot shotgun shell, which is what emergency officials determined him to be shot with.
The police confiscated the pistol to submit to evidence for safekeeping and the victim was taken to an area hospital.
