COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities say they have a man in custody after multiple law enforcement agencies responded to I-95 in Colleton County for a case involving a stolen vehicle and suspicious items.

Officials with Colleton County Fire and Rescue say the incident happened Thursday morning when a car crashed near the 52 mile marker on I-95 near Walterboro.

A trooper with Highway Patrol responded and found the car had been stolen from Virginia.

A report states deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff's Office responded to assist the trooper and found the driver walking along I-95.

"The suspect had several packages and items that alerted the deputy and caused concern," CCFR officials said."The items were cordoned off and Fire-Rescue’s HazMat Team responded. SLED, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad and the FBI also responded."

According to CCFR officials, traffic on I-95 was limited to one lane for a short period. Highway Patrol closed a section of the interstate while technicians examined the items, identified their contents and determined they were not dangerous, a report states.

I-95 was reopened at 10:40 a.m. No injuries were reported.

The suspect is being held in the Colleton County Detention Center.
