SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - The United States Geological Survey confirms an earthquake happened in the Summerville area Friday morning.
The epicenter of the 2.3 magnitude quake was just off of O'Sullivan Lane near Highway 61.
The shaking started at 4:24 a.m, the agency said.
An earthquake of magnitude 2.6 shook the Summerville area on August 25, 2017, according to Dr. Steven Jaume with the Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences at the College of Charleston.
More than 40 earthquakes have been located by the USGS in the Summerville area in the past 10 years, many too small to be felt, according to Jaume.
The agency says 19 people reported feeling the quake. Live 5 News also received many calls and messages from viewers who said the rumbling woke them up.
No damage has been reported yet.
