Live 5 anchors celebrate National Read Across America Day

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) -

Schools across the country are celebrating National Read Across America Day Friday in honor of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss's birthday.

In the Lowcountry, some familiar faces read to area school children.

Live 5 anchors Kyle Jordan, Aisha Tyler, Sydney Ryan, Meteorologist Stephanie Sine and Chief Meteorologist Bill Walsh joined in the celebration at Spann Elementary School in Summerville.

Anchor Lisa Weismann read to students at the Otranto Road Regional Library and reporter Alissa Holmes read to students at the James Island Library Thursday.

Events will continue throughout the weekend. 

On Saturday, a performer dressed as Seuss's Cat in the Hat will read to students at the Hurd/St. Andrews Regional Library at 10:30 a.m.

On Monday, Folly Beach Mayor Tim Goodwin and Folly Beach Baptist Church Pastor Richard Summey will read to children at 10:30 a.m. at the Folly Beach Library.
