CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Approximately two dozen alligators died during the winter cold snap earlier this year, state Department of Natural Resources officials said.
The dead alligators ranged in size from four to ten feet long, they say.
DNR officials say reports of alligator deaths came in from coastal and inland areas.
Examinations found no visible signs of disease or other factors.
Alligators generally can't handle freezing temperatures so many retreat to burrows and dens during the winter months.
