St. Patrick's Day parade, block party set for Saturday in N. Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

The Lowcountry's biggest St. Patrick's Day celebration is set for Saturday in the Olde Village of North Charleston.

The 15th Annual St. Paddy’s Day Block Party & Parade kicks off at noon and continues until 6 p.m.

The celebration will feature live music across four stages, street vending and fare from Park Circle restaurants, additional specialty food vendors, charity partner booths, the mechanical bull and a Kid’s Zone with fire trucks, jump castles, face painting, inflatable slide and a bungee trampoline, according to North Charleston Coliseum & Performing Arts Center spokesman Alan Coker.

The block party kicks off with a parade starting on Park Place East, adjacent to East Montague Avenue and across from Park Circle Community Center, at noon. The parade route will proceed down East Montague Avenue through the block party location to Virginia Avenue.

The parade Grand Marshalls will be James Hartzog, General Manager of Madra Rua Irish Pub Park Circle and Jason Weber, General Manager of Madra Rua Irish Pub Summerville. Featured guests will include North Charleston's Mayor Keith Summey, Councilman Bob King, The Charleston Pipe Band, North Charleston High ROTC, Sumter Guards of Charleston, and The Lowcountry High Rollers Roller Derby Team.

  • 12:30 p.m. Mark Schuler
  • 2 p.m. Good Foot Band
  • 3:30 p.m. Paddy McGee Duo

EVO Pizzeria Stage Sponsored by The Factory @ Garco Apartments:

  • 12:30 p.m. Capitol City Playboys
  • 1:30 p.m. The Ectomorphs
  • 2:30 p.m. Dustin P. Fanning & The Seconds Out
  • 4 p.m. The Metro Tools

Guinness Stage at Madra Rua Irish Pub:

  • 12:30 p.m. Karl Byrne
  • 2 p.m. The Black Iron Gathering
  • 4:30 p.m. Don Merckle & The Blacksmiths

Madra Rua Side Stage:

  • 1 p.m. Charleston Pipe Band
  • 2 p.m. Danny May
  • 4 p.m. John Cusatis

East Montague Ave. between Virginia Ave. and Jenkins Ave. and portions of O’Hear Ave., Chateau Ave. and Colie Morse Lane will close at 9 a.m. for setup and remain closed until 7 p.m.
 
Additionally, East Montague Avenue between Park Place East and Jenkins Avenue will close at 11:30 a.m. and stay closed for the duration of the parade.  

The party, parade and parking are free to the public. Parking is very limited, please carpool and utilize care when parking in adjacent neighborhoods.  

VIP Parking will be available for $5 at North Charleston High School and will benefit the North Charleston High PTSA and Senior Week activities.  

Free parking will be located on O’Hear Avenue by accessing Virginia Avenue from I-526 East.
