Firefighters battle woods fire on Johns Island

JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Multiple fire crews responded to a woods fire on Johns Island.

As of approximately 6 p.m. Sunday, firefighters say the fire is roughly 80 percent contained.

The fire started on the 3300 block of Island Estates at 3:38 p.m. according to dispatch.

Main Road closed between Brownswood Road and Chisolm Road, St. Johns Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Kunitzer said.

The area in fire is behind Island Estates, he said.

No houses have been affected. It's not clear what started the fire.

Forestry crews are cutting a line around the fire to help contain it.
