Police chief drops out of consideration for top job at Charleston PD

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - City of Charleston officials say a candidate for the police department's new chief has dropped out.

Spokesman Jack O'Toole has confirmed that Kenton Buckner out of Little Rock, Arkansas has withdrawn his name from consideration.

Buckner has been the Little Rock police chief since 2014 after working his way through the ranks of the Louisville Kentucky Police Department.

This comes a month after Buckner and four other candidates visited Charleston.

The department has been under the direction of interim police Chief Jerome Taylor since Greg Mullen retired last June.
