CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - It's only a matter of weeks until mosquito season takes hold in the Lowcountry.
The Palmetto State has at least 61 species of the bug, according to the Department of Health and Environmental Control.More than 50 species exist in Charleston County alone and 30 of those can bite people and pets.
Charleston County Mosquito Control will be treating and inspecting the county for aquatic-stage mosquitoes soon.
Spraying trucks on the ground will also occur over the same time frame with daily schedules available here.
The county mosquito control program treated more than 782,000 acres in 2017. It employs 29 people and uses a helicopter as well as ground crews to treat certain areas.
