COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Investigators say there will be no charges filed after a man was fatally shot at a Lowcountry motel.

Donovan Blevins was killed on Feb. 24 at the Motel 6 on 33 Campground Road in Walterboro.

Officials with the Walterboro Police Department say an investigation revealed that Blevins was shot in self defense.

According to police, Blevins' wife was visiting a male friend at the motel when her recently estranged husband showed up at the motel.

"Donovan Blevins, broke into the hotel room, by busting through a window, and gained entry into the room," WPD officials said.

A report states once inside, a physical altercation took place between the two males.

Blevins was shot during the altercation and ultimately died as a result of his injury, authorities said.

Emergency responders reported finding the victim unresponsive inside one of the motel rooms.

"Due to Blevins breaking into the hotel room and the physical altercation, the investigation yielded that the incident was self-defense," police said. "No charges will be filed at this time however forensic evidence is still being processed."
