ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Investigators have charged a 34-year-old Lowcountry man accused of using a box cutter to slash his wife's neck several times.
The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office has charged Laterrence Mack of Orangeburg with attempted murder.
"This makes no sense," Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said. "If you have problems, talk. Talk about the problems. This is just despicable."
Deputies and EMS crews were called to Mack's home where they found a woman lying on the ground in the front yard with several people tending to her.
"Deputies assisted in holding a towel to the woman's neck to stem the bleeding," OCSO officials said."She had been cut several times."
According to investigators, the victim told deputies her husband began an argument with her, and she ran to a room to escape him.
"However, the man caught up with the victim and sliced her neck with a box cutter several times," OCSO officials said.
A report states the woman managed to flee the home and collapsed in the front yard.
"Several children inside the home watching TV were not injured," the sheriff's office said.
Mack faces up to 30 years, if convicted. He went before a magistrate on Tuesday.
"Bond was deferred during that hearing to a circuit court judge at a later date," OCSO officials said.
